NYFW Flashback: Ostwald Helgason SS13 Takes Prep to the Year 2050

Ostwald Helgason presented his Spring/Summer 2013 collection on Saturday, September 8th at Milk Studios during this past New York Fashion Week. Out of the few shows I was able to catch that week, this one definitely left an impression with me. It's so hard to find designers presenting in NYC to actually show some fun with their collections.

Thanks to his use of a broad color palette that's perfect for the warmer seasons, along with the fine, preppy sophisticated cut of the garments, Helgason developed a clean yet still spunky collection of duds that could totally play up to a range of people's personal tastes. From the Upper Eastsider to the Downtown fashionista, it's quite easy to see his clothes on all sorts of folks.

At the presentation I thought to myself, "This is what people in the 1980s probably thought what preppy clothing would like like in the year 2012." Heck, even now in 2012, Helgason's SS13 collection looks like what ESPRIT/Benetton/Lacoste will be creating come 2050.

PS Why do these models look so pissed off more than models normally do at shows? It's probably because I came at the tail-end of the two hour presentation. I've never seen a model able to hold a smile for a full two hours - have you?
