Last Thursday, my best friend Emily at Pitch Control PR invited me to Boxing Kitten's Resort 2010 Collection Launch in New York City. The event was held at the very charming Etnies Rooftop in Soho. The weather was sunny and mild, perfect for any outdoor event. Just about everything about the party was charming to the max. Boxing Kitten's collection was on display by a row of live models on faux lawn grass for patrons and photographers to go ga-ga over.
Chris Reed, Susie G, and Katja Hentschel.
The label's theme of the party and the resort collection seemed to draw influence from the aesthetic of early 60s American Suburban lawn parties. The bar stand was in a Tiki hut, a few folks were wearing flower lays, colorful string lights decorated around the DJ Booth, and there was even jiggly Jell-O molds being served! Blast from the past indeed! I also got to enjoy a great, glowing pink cocktail courtesy of Belvedere Vodka and VitaminWater.
Belvedere Vodka + VitaminWater = Cocktail Win
One of my favorite pop songstresses Estelle was there too, and I got a little starstruck I might say. I once worked for an internationally known retailer in Boston, and all they would play was Estelle and Kanye West's "American Boy" - hence, I became a fan of Estelle since then. The decor, the collection, the guests - it was all a great mix of casual and elegance, Americana and tribal, and modern meets vintage.
Estelle + Models = Boxing Kitten Win
Today, it seems that a lot of collections and lines are being inspired by the days of yesteryear. Except Boxing Kitten takes cuts and forms from the past to infuse them with eye-catching tribal prints that don't scream at you, but more like playfully cheer at you to leave a grin on your face and just put you in a good mood. After seeing this collection, all I want to know is where can I get a piece or two, and when is the next collection coming out?
